Tunga means needlework in isiZulu and is the inspiration for knitting a community closer together, creating art and improving lives.
Tunga studio currently works with over 30 local Zulu artists. The 28 women and 2 men create needlework of meticulous perfection that is exported globally. Each artist brings their own unique perspective and creativity to their work.
Exciting Projects: Tunga was given an exciting commission to embroider four large panels, for the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls,which opened in January 2007 in Henley-on-klip, south of Johannesburg. Philisiwe Dlamini, Nelisiwe Nxumalo , Mamsi Makoba and Nonto Dlamini, created these panels which marked a great achievement for Tunga.
Recent Achievements: Tunga exhibited three products at the KZNSA FNB Craft Now 2006 exhibition. The embroidered red umbrella, was awarded the New Signature Award. Nelisiwe Nxumalo was the artist.
